Spine Surgery and Sepsis

My mom is a sepsis survivor. She went in for full spinal fusion surgery on Friday, January 17th. After 12 1/2 hours she was sent to recover in the Neuro Critical Care Unit. She had an infection which became septic. We were very scared for her life. I drove out and spent 5 days visiting and helping at the hospital. It was a very scary, but sacred time for my family. I realized how much I love and need my Mom. I'm so glad she's alive.

Todd came to see her from Kentucky. We didn't know if he would make it to see her alive, but she was already recovering when he came and he got to spend nearly a week helping out at the hospital and with my dad. He gave my mom a beautiful blessing.

Dad's bishop, Dane Kay, sent Dad this quote:

"Each of us will have our own Fridays—those days when the universe itself seems shattered and the shards of our world lie littered about us in pieces. We all will experience those broken times when it seems we can never be put together again. We will all have our Fridays. But I testify to you in the name of the One who conquered death—Sunday will come. In the darkness of our sorrow, Sunday will come. No matter our desperation, no matter our grief, Sunday will come. In this life or the next, Sunday will come." -- J.B. Wirthlin

On Saturday we thought Mom's fight was ending but by Sunday she knew us and wanted to talk to all of us. I'm so glad she got to see us all together. Our Sunday came.

Today my Mom got moved from NCCU to IMCU. We're so proud of her progress! She's a fighter.
