USAV IDQ

This weekend I had the opportunity to play in an international development qualifier(IDQ). I didn't know what to expect, but ended up playing some of our nations best beach volleyball athletes. It was so fun! I partnered with Jessica Rolin, a young indoor setter who is transitioning to the sand really nicely. She just had shoulder surgery, but is going to just keep getting healthier and stronger and better.

Unfortunately we didn't get any wins, but we got to play 3 fun teams including superstar Tealle Hunkus in our first match, and later Kelly Shumacher, a 6'5" basketball WMBA champion. Kelly put up such a big block that I actually hit the ball off of her head! Just for the record, I did block Kelly. Once. Kelly's partner, Erin Gray, is a lefty and has one mean jump serve! Jessie got most of the serves in our other matches, but Erin served me equally and made it really fun for me. I didn't set Jessie well yesterday, and with her shoulder not 100% we really had a tough time siding out.

The tournament was held at the USA Olympic training center in Chula Vista. We had officials. We had on site chiropractors. We had meal cards to the cafeteria. The campus rules included no alcohol, no swearing, no smoking. It was the cleanest, nicest volleyball tournament I have ever played in! So fun. Just one win would have been nice, though. Losing sucks.

You are amazing. I think it's awesome that you still play a mean game. Better luck next time!
