Birth Mother's Day

Before we adopted Emily I had no idea that the Saturday before Mother's Day was a day to honor birth mothers. Mother's day can be a difficult day for women for many reasons. Some women mourn for lost children, some women mourn because of infertility, and many women will never be married. Those of us lucky enough to be moms usually spend the day exhausted and feeling unworthy. Mother's day can be especially painful for women who have placed a baby. We hope that by honoring Birth Mother's Day, Emily's birth mom will know that she is loved and appreciated. If you know someone who has placed a baby for adoption, please send them extra love this weekend. These women make it possible for women like me to be called mom. What a blessing.
