Pain in the Butt

At the end of July Ryan started having some stomach cramping and diarrhea. Eventually his BMs included blood, which concerned us both. He saw a physician who ran some tests and gave him an antibiotic, but he did not improve and eventually saw a specialist who scheduled a colonoscopy for today.

His doctor is running some biopsies to confirm his diagnosis: ulcerative colonitis. This is a treatable, but chronic disease. It may also be hereditary. We don't know exactly what his long term treatment will be until the results of the biopsies are complete and we meet with the doctor next week. The doctor also removed two "baby" polyps, which did not concern him, but he will have biopsied as well.

Although not excited about having this disease, Ryan is glad to have a diagnosis, especially one that is not colon cancer. His doctor is also confident that his new prescriptions will significantly improve his symptoms and he should start feeling much better soon. We are happy for that. He has felt poorly for about 5 weeks now.

And I have been cleaning a pretty nasty toilet for at least that long. But, it's not really about me....
