Emily started school on Wednesday, August 20th. There was a lot of nervous energy at the school on the first day because the school has combined a bunch of the first and second graders in order to make smaller classes for everyone. Emily was placed in a first grade only class with Mrs. Koller, who is in her 25th year of teaching. There are 22 students in her class (down from 28 in her Kindergarten class). So, I'm pretty happy. But, I think she would have done fine in a combined classroom as well. She really likes school and comes home happy and excited.

| I stare at photos of her all the time. I think she's gorgeous. |

| Mrs. Koller had the kids write these on the first day and displayed them for back to school night. |
Over the summer, Emily and I read the first two books in the Narnia series. It was really fun! It's a challenging read for Emily, so I read most of it, but she followed along and loves the story. I'm sad we don't have much time to read it now. She's so busy now with piano and soccer and homework every day! It's a lot for a six-year-old. Anyway, for participating in the summer reading challenge at school, she received a gift certificate to In-N-Out Burger. We went as a family last night and cashed it in. She was thrilled!
