We spent Thanksgiving in Sacramento with Ryan's mom, sister Jan, and Jan's in-laws. The Wuebkers are such lovely people and made a super yummy dinner on Thursday.
Ryan's dad, Neil, suffers from dementia. He also has other health concerns, including an irregular heartbeat. We haven't seen Grandpa Neil for a couple of years, and he has declined significantly since then. Ryan went a couple of times to the nursing home to visit him on Thursday and Friday. Then this morning the girls and I got to visit, too. We were lucky he was relatively happy this morning and seemed excited to meet the girls.
Jan does so much for Ryan's parents. We got a glimpse into her life as a full-time caretaker for mom and dad, and know that it can't be easy. We love her for it.
Emily and Avery had a fun time at the hotel. We have an indoor pool, sugar cereal, and cable television, so vacation was a success for them. They also really enjoyed playing with cousin Neil and Aunt Jan. Long road trips with young kids are not easy, but this was an important trip, and we are so glad we came. It meant a lot to Aunt Jan and Grandma Cherry, and to us as well. We are so thankful for loving family. We are incredibly blessed.
